The P/N 2080 Gear Position System is an electronic system that provides voice warnings if the landing gear is not in the correct position for both a water landing and a runway landing.
The system consists of a small box that can be mounted anywhere behind the panel, and 2 push-button switches with built in lights. The switches are labeled "L" for land and "W" for water. The system connects to the aircraft Pitot system. When the airspeed exceeds a preset value, the system becomes active. A 15 sec delay is built into the system to prevent false triggering on takeoff.
The activation speed can be set to any value between 45mph and 90 mph by a simple screwdriver setting. Once activated, the lights illuminate for 6 sec to indicate that the system is active. If the airspeed falls below the activation speed, the pilot will hear the voice message "SELECT LANDING" in his headset and through the built in speaker. He must then select either the "L" or the "W" switch depending on which type of landing he is making.
Once the landing has been selected, the system checks the gear position to determine if the wheels are in the correct position for the type of landing that has been selected. If the gear is correctly positioned, he will hear the voice message "GEAR OK FOR WATER LANDING" or "GEAR OK FOR RUNWAY LANDING". If the gear is not correct, he will hear "CHECK LANDING GEAR" in his headset and through the built in speaker. The system can also be activated by lowering the flaps at any speed. Lowering the flaps will start the landing sequence by initiating the select landing voice.
Raising the flaps or increasing the airspeed will return the system to the flight condition. The system can also be tested in flight or no the ground. Pushing either switch will start a self test of the electronics. If the system is working, the pilot will hear the message "TEST OK". The system can be disengaged for slow flight by pushing and hold either switch for 2 sec. When released, the lights will flash indicating that the system is temporarily disengaged.
Pushing either switch again re-engages the system and turns the lights off. The system interconnects to the existing aircraft gear position lights, and can function in aircraft having 2, 4, or 8 position lights The unit comes complete with a prewired cable assembly and switches. Total system weight is less than 1 lb
